Let me wear my parasitic science cap, and in the process make my friends, who thought I can only write on politics, to sweat a bit.

The topics of global green debate and economic development fascinate me these days.

ā€œLoad sheddingā€ irritate most South Africans. Carbon tax makes to be very expensive. Marikana deaths caused a stare. Unemployment causes sleepless nights to policy makers. Economic growths of above 8% remain a distant target.

To ordinary folks all these factors seem unrelated, but the truth they are in a minerals driven economy like South Africa. The interaction between the fashionable green agenda and usage of specific minerals (fossils and hydrocarbons) in the quest to achieving an economic growth vs clean air balance has major implications forā€¦
